Elizabeth Johnston, a long-time member of Northminster, bequeathed a significant gift to the church from her estate with the instruction to “provide food for the hungry.” During the 2009 Advent season, Northminster’s congregation came together to do just that – to feed others with compassion by providing food for hungry people wherever they might be.

Elizabeth Johnston
We hope you will take the time to read the testimonies which describe how a portion of Elizabeth’s gift was used to provide food for hungry people by making An Advent Gift of the Heart.
Thank you to all who participated in An Advent Gift of the Heart.
Inside the pages of the Advent Gift of the Heart! Testimonies Booklet (PDF), you will read about some amazing people, who did amazing ministry, to the glory of our amazing God. I have no doubt that these stories will touch your heart and spirit with what God can accomplish, when his people are unleashed to use their imagination and creativity.
As the pastor who relates to mission here at Northminster, I want to thank all those who were able to take part in this ministry opportunity. Thank you for your diligence and willingness to, in so many ways, ‘think outside the box’ when it comes to using money to feed the hungry.
I also want to thank our Advent Gift of the Heart team of Marshall Worden, Pam Edgar, Crissi Peterson, Ellen Wilson and Sheila Yamanaka, who put in many hours in the planning of this ministry, and in collecting, reading and organizing this material. As you read and enjoy these testimonies, I have no doubt, that Elizabeth would be proud of the way Northminster honored her gift to us.
Pastor to Mission,
Ken Skodiak
