Encouraging a Biblical pattern of Christian giving

Ministry of Stewardship and Giving

Christian generosity is rooted in an understanding that all we are and have belongs to God. - Psalm 24:1

Our gratitude is expressed through our faithful obedience to God’s wishes for living and encourages financial support of the Church. Ideally our giving is to be: regular, joyful, proportional, and sacrificial.

Northminster’s financial stewardship emphasis is an intentional effort to encourage the biblical pattern of giving. We do this in order to promote spiritual growth and we hope that each member of our congregation will consider regular and faithful giving.

Regular Faithful Giving

Each fall, individuals and families use the Estimate of Giving Cards to update their coming year financial commitment.

The estimate may be increased or decreased during the year as your circumstances warrant.
This process provides a planning tool for the leaders of the Church.

Northminster recognizes the tithe (10% of one’s gross earnings) as a biblical standard for giving. Congregational members are encouraged to consider increasing by 1% per year towards your own personal giving goals.

If you have never made a pledge, begin with a reasonable objective and plan to increase your giving over time.

How Will My Gift Be Used?

When you make a gift to support the Church’s mission, it is directed to one or more of the following funds:

OPERATING FUND
Supports the day-to-day life and programs of the Church and includes current ministries, missions and operations.

MINISTRY FUNDS
General Funds
Provide unrestricted resources for a variety of ministries. Can be thought of as a savings account where monies are set aside for greatest need.
Building and Capital Fund
Includes long-term expansion, building renovation in a timely way and capital equipment needs.
Mission Fund
Serves our special mission outreach programs locally, nationally and into other countries.
Vocational Fund
Provides for internship training, scholarships and Christian leadership development for staff and volunteers.

LEGACY FUNDS
Investment here provides for the long-term financial health of Northminster. Legacy Gifts, from wills and trusts, are overseen by the Session of the Church.

All gifts made to Northminster are appreciated and we want to assist you with further information. Thank you for your interest in supporting our Church in its mission.

Ways to Give

OUTRIGHT GIFTS
You can make gifts of cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, or other assets to the Church. Your gift qualifies for a charitable tax deduction and provides the Church with immediate resources to carry out our mission.

LEGACY GIFTS
You can decide during your lifetime to leave a legacy gift that will have an impact for years to come.

There are number of options for making a legacy gift, including a will or trust, designations through a retirement account or life insurance policy or a life income gift such as a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity.

ENDOWMENT
An endowment gift is one where the principal remains intact with the Church receiving the income. Endowment gifts to Northminster are professionally managed for the Church by the Presbyterian Foundation.

Questions?

We recognize that Christian stewardship is a different view of giving from the world’s perspective and additional questions and information may be needed as you make important decisions about supporting your Church. If you would like a personal and confidential visit with a church staff member, please call Dr. Andrew Ross, Pastor, or Kate Kelly, Business Manager, at (520) 327-7121.
