Rummage Sale
Most of us have items in our homes we are no longer using. Why not donate them? The Crafters are once again sponsoring the Annual Rummage Sale, to be held on March 12 and 13 in the Basketball Court. All proceeds from the sale go to local mission projects. We will be accepting donations of furniture, appliances, electronics, dishes, collectibles, sports equipment, toys and books. Storage space at the church is limited, so please do not bring items to the church until March 11. For more information, please contact Diane Shackelford or Julie Crane.
Class 101: Discovering Church Membership
A one day class! Saturday, March 20, 9:00am-2:00pm. What does church membership mean? Why is this important for you? Class 101: Discovering Church Membership addresses these questions and more! This informative and interactive class is for everyone: newcomer, regular attendee or visitor who is interested in knowing more about Northminster, our church philosophy, Presbyterians, ministries, mission and more. To attend the class, please sign up in the Church Office or contact us. Childcare is available upon request. For further information, contact Kathy Mallgren.
Need a Table in the Rowley Courtyard?
We ask that you request one in advance. Please contact Marian Hargrove by the Friday morning prior.
At Northminster we seek through the Holy Spirit to help children come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and go out into the world equipped to honor God throughout their lives. Nurturing families is a primary goal at Northminster. We strive to provide a safe, child-friendly place where your family can learn, praise, and celebrate together in Christ. Bible Blast Workshop Leaders Needed
In Bible BLAST, children examine one Bible story over a series of five weeks by attending a different workshop each week, in which the Bible story is presented from a different learning perspective. Some of our workshops include computers, art, drama, music, games, video, and cooking. The workshops change with each new unit, making each Bible story unique and fresh. Workshop leaders are needed for:
March 14-April 18 – The Resurrection of Jesus
April 25-May 23 – Pentecost: The Birth of the Church
As a workshop leader, you would commit to only one five-week rotation, Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30am, teaching the same lesson each week to the different grade levels coming in to your classroom. You can always commit to more rotations if you want. We train! If you are interested in getting involved or would like additional information, please contact Sheila Yamanaka.
Worship Leaders Needed!
Worship & Wonder leaders will enjoy encouraging children to participate in weekly Bible stories, lead children in prayer, and teach God’s word through music. This is a wonderful opportunity for adults to instill in children the idea that God is loving and fun-loving - and that God cares deeply about the prayer and worship of even the youngest child. The time commitment is one Sunday a month at either the 8:00 or 11:00am service. No experience necessary; we train! Please contact Peter Earhart for additional information.
We believe that the education of both the young and the young-at-heart is very much a part of what God has called each of us to do as his disciples. To that end, Christian education has become an integral part of life at Northminster Presbyterian Church. For more information on this ministry, click here.

New Adult Class During Lent
A Response to the Atheists will be taught by Dr. Dick Leon February 21-March 28, on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30am, in the Grundstrom Room in the Multipurpose Building.
Christopher Hitchens, one of the so-called "four horsemen of atheism," has written that the New Testament is a "crude carpentry hammered together long after its purported events and full of improvised attempts to make things come out right." Hitchens goes on to challenge the historical accuracy of the scriptures, and says none of the gospels can agree on anything of importance regarding Jesus' life, death and resurrection. Dr. Leon wants to respond to that challenge by studying the four gospel accounts of the Passion of Christ and his Resurrection to see if they do or don't "agree on anything of importance."

We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ who worship Sunday evenings at 6:00pm. We are college students, young adults, and people of all ages who are seeking to live authentic lives honoring the seeking, saving, and sending God of the Bible. Fusion is more than a worship service, it is a way of life. We seek ways to participate in what God is doing in the community where we live. For more information on this ministry, click here.
Please check back soon for new announcements about this ministry!
Northminster Presbyterian Church takes very seriously Jesus’ injunction, found in John 15:17, “This I command you, to love one another.” We seek to minister to the needs of all members and friends of the church. Regardless of whether these needs are the result of illness, loss, grief or unfortunate circumstances, Northminster wants to bring the comfort of Christian love to all those who are hurting. For more information on this ministry of our Board of Deacons, click here; for more information on our pastoral care ministries, click here.
Cancer Support Group
A cancer-related ministry is being formed at Northminster for those who are undergoing treatment for cancer at the present time. This ministry will provide prayer, discussion, encouragement, fellowship and group support. Cancer survivors and caregivers are also invited and encouraged to attend. The support group will be led by Elder Michael Ugalde, who is the Resident Chaplain at the Arizona Cancer Center at University Medical Center and Northwest Medical Center. If you are interested in this prayer support group, please plan to attend the first meeting at 2:00pm, February 28 in Rooms 8 and 9 of the Christian Education Building. Please contact Chaplain Michael. You may also sign up with Pastor John Cheek.
Caregiver Support Group
Caregiving can be stressful. Bruce Bagley facilitates a support group to provide help to those who have family members with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in our Library from 1:00-2:30pm. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3. No preregistration is required.
The Deacons Closet
The Deacons Closet offers food to members and neighbors in need each Tuesday from 9:00-11:00am in the Mid High Room. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for their donations. This week the Deacons Closet asks for your help with donations of canned meat, beans, corn, chili, pork and beans, jelly, fruit, crackers, newborn and size 2 diapers, jello, pudding and bottled water. Donations to the closet are always welcome, and are received daily through the Church Office.
Deacons Transportation Committee
We have a need for someone who could provide an occasional ride to a woman in the Sunrise/Craycroft area. This is a woman who can no longer drive, and would like to be able to worship with her church family. If you can provide a ride, please contact the Church Office or Patty Christian, Transportation Committee Chair.
You Can Make the Prayer Chain Stronger!
The Prayer Chain is rewarding and beneficial to both those who serve as links in the chain and those for whom we pray. We can always use more links in the prayer chain! As a member of the Prayer Chain you will be notified by phone of a prayer concern to add to your personal prayer list. Then you will call the next link in the chain to pass on the request. To serve, you need to be accessible by phone (use of an answering machine is acceptable) and be committed to praying daily. The Prayer Chain is perfect for both men and women who want to serve from home. Interested? Please contact us for more information.
Here at Northminster, we attempt to take very seriously the call of God in our lives. This call is to live a life of integrity, honesty, spiritual leadership and love wherever God has placed us. One of the great ways we can support this important call is to gather together for fellowship with other men inside and outside our church walls. That is why, for years, Northminster has offered programs and events at which men can gather to support and pray for each other. For more information on this ministry, click here.
Men's Ministry - Get Connected!
Want a heads up on Men’s Ministry happenings? If you’re not on the Men’s Ministry e-mail list, you might be missing out! Please send requests to be added to the e-mail list to the Church Office.
Mission at Northminster is a very important part of what we do and how we see ourselves. We have mission opportunities for youth and adults that involve both local projects and traveling outside our own state and country. For more information on mission at NPC, click here.
Eben-Ezer Clinic In Haiti
February 21 in the Rowley Courtyard, after each service of worship, Alice Roder will be selling copies of the beautiful children’s book, I Wish It Would Rain, which she has illustrated. Proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Eben-ezer Clinic in Haut-Limbé, Haiti, a project of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada. The clinic is providing vital medical care for refugees from earthquake-devastated Port-au-Prince, and medical supplies are being delivered to the clinic. The book would be a wonderful gift to a child, grandchild, neighbor or school library, and adults will be moved by the artistry and message. The cost is $15, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the clinic in Haiti.
Gospel Rescue Mission Adopt-A-Room
Remodeling work on Northminster’s five adopted rooms at the new Women and Children’s Center will continue on Saturday, February 27, from 8:00am–12:00pm. The Center is at 707 West Miracle Mile. We will be installing and repairing drywall. Your help will be greatly valued, especially if you have experience with drywall installation. But there is work for all, regardless of previous experience. Please bring saws, utility knives, hammers, saw horses, tape measures, short ladders, brooms and dust masks. Sign up in the Church Office or by contacting us.
Meals For Mission
Do you enjoy entertaining guests in your home? Do you love to cook? If so, you might be interested in becoming a Hospitality Host for the upcoming Meals for Mission Auction! Northminster’s church family is invited to participate in an upcoming fundraising event to benefit our Senior High Yucatan mission trip.
Hospitality Hosts are needed to prepare a meal (Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Picnic, BBQ, Dinner, etc.) and provide the space and facilities to serve that meal. As a host, you will choose a date sometime in April, May or June to host a mealtime get-together for a set number of guests at the location of your choice. You choose the time, a creative theme, the menu, the number of guests to invite; purchase and prepare the food, and we’ll get you some nice people to attend your gathering! Meal experiences will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in March. Keep an eye out for more details about that subject!
If you would like to learn more about how you can become a Hospitality Host, please stop by the Meals for Mission table in the Rowley Courtyard on February 21. You may also contact Sheila Yamanaka.
Northminster’s music ministry is vibrant and offers a full-spectrum program for young, old and in-between. Our mission is to encourage participants to develop and express their gifts in music to the glory of God. Enriching lives spiritually and musically is an important secondary goal in addition to learning and performing music dedicated to the glory of God. Music participation offers opportunity for small-group social interaction - so important in a large church. It is a way to make music and to make friends, and thus feel a greater kinship within the larger church family. For more information on this ministry, click here.
Sanctuary Choir Concert
Please join us on Sunday afternoon, March 14, at 5:00pm in the Sanctuary for an inspirational and beautiful musical program, when our Sanctuary Choir, soloists and guest instrumentalists present Franz Schubert’s Mass in G.
The mass text, consisting of praise, prayer and statements of faith, is the property of all Christians. Schubert’s lovely work, composed during one week in 1815 when he was 18 years old, was intended for use in his parish church. It is modestly scored for soprano, tenor and bass soloists as well as choir, strings and organ. Schubert created soaring lyrical passages as well as declamatory passages in setting the Nicene Creed. It is beautiful, poignant, inspirational and presents a quiet spiritual message. A reception will follow in the Rowley Courtyard.
Organ/Violin Duo Concert
Friday, March 19, 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary: Andrew Irvin, violinist, and David Christopher, organist, are returning to Northminster for an encore performance. Performing frequently throughout the United States, their program includes a wide range of music for violin and organ from Baroque to Contemporary, with an emphasis on duets from the Romantic repertoire and orchestral transcriptions for violin and organ.
Drew is Co-Concertmaster of the Arkansas Symphony and was previously principal violin in the Arizona Opera Orchestra. David has held a number of distinctive organ positions in the Philadelphia and Wilmington areas and is organist and director of music for the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew, in Wilmington, Delaware.
It’s possible to listen to a selection of their music by going to this website: http://www.davidchristopherbelcanto.com/recordings.htm.
A freewill offering will be taken, and a reception will follow in the Rowley Courtyard.
Northminster Christian School benefits the young minds, bodies and spirits of Tucson’s children.
